MAGCS Membership Benefits
The golf course management profession is unlike any other. Golf Course Superintendents are not only willing to share information and "trade secrets" but are more than willing to lend a hand to fellow superintendents in need. During a time when corporate competition has never been greater, with reduced profit margins, and carefully sought return on investments, one can find no greater investment than becoming a member of MAGCS. Golf Course Superintendents manage the greatest asset at any golf course facility, the golf course itself.

Networking
MAGCS offers the opportunity to network with fellow superintendents. As our society adapts to technology that provides us with information in our own space, personal relationships are inadvertently never developed or grown. MAGCS recognizes the value of knowing people, friendships, and relationships in a world that is sometimes driving seclusion. MAGCS hosts monthly educational and golf meetings, provides venues for social gatherings, offers conduits through print and web to share information, and promotes individuals through its volunteer infrastructure.

Education
Golf course management is a science that deals with living, growing plants that react to their changing environment. Golf Course Superintendents must have a strong background in plant science to understand the turfgrass they manage. Furthermore a golf course superintendent must know how to manage people, finances, equipment, inventories, computer controlled systems, projects and much more. To meet these requirements, the MAGCS Education Committee set up over 40 contact hours of education for its members on an annual basis. The MAGCS membership realizes their education never stops. They rely on MAGCS and the education committee to find timely, apropos topics with information, ideas and processes that can be utilized right away.

Employment
The golf courses managed by the MAGCS members are some of the finest in the world. Many golf course superintendents desire to manage a golf course in the Chicagoland area because of the reputation of the turf conditions provided by MAGCS members. MAGCS offers all golf clubs and courses the opportunity to send position announcements to the MAGCS membership. Golf Course Superintendent positions, support personnel and the like are advertised within the MAGCS. Furthermore, MAGCS offers help to golf courses or clubs searching for a golf course superintendent. Please visit the employment section for further information.

Link to Research
MAGCS has supported local turf research and remains a conduit for information from principal investigators to its members. MAGCS continues to support turf research at the Chicago District Golf Association's Sunshine Course, the University of Illinois, and Southern Illinois University.

Scholarship
Every year, the children and grand children of MAGCS members have the opportunity to compete for scholarships. Since 1999, MAGCS has awarded over $20,000 to students pursuing college degrees in any field of study.

Communication
MAGCS offers each of its members the ability to stay in touch with one another through print and electronic media. This interactive website allows members of MAGCS to share information, exchange ideas, and help each other. On Course, the MAGCS monthly magazine brings the accolades and achievements of MAGCS members to an audience across the country. The award winning magazine features articles penned by golf course superintendents for superintendents. On Course also features a section on equipment for our growing equipment technician class, not to mention contributions by many other industry professionals. MAGCS members keep informed through On Course.

Membership is up to the individual, and the individuals that make up MAGCS have many different reasons for being members. The one belief that each member has about MAGCS is value. No other golf association measures up to MAGCS.
